Monthly Maintenance Website Checklist

Here's a list of items that you should check every month to see if a client's site is up-to-date:
  • WordPress
  • Plugins
  • PHP version

Before you start updating everything, it's important to make a backup of their site. The easiest way to do this is by using the "Backup Wizard" within the client's cPanel account.

Log into their cPanel account and go to Backup Wizard > Back Up. You'll see an option for a Full Backup, but this is only if we're moving their account to another server. You'll want to use the other options to do a partial backup. The only ones we need to worry about are "Home Directory" and "MySQL Databases". You can follow the steps within the Backup Wizard to download those files onto your computer. If something does happen to the site while updating, you can always go to the "Restore" option within the Backup Wizard.

Updating WordPress

WordPress usually updates with every major release, but it's always good to make sure it's up-to-date in between.

Updating Plugins

When updating plugins, the site could actually break.
